Richard Markillie – Douglas County Sheriff’s Office

In 2023, the Oregon Board on Public Safety Standards and Training revoked the basic, intermediate, and advanced corrections certifications of former Douglas County Sheriff’s Office employee Richard Markillie. He was terminated after an investigation revealed that he neglected his duty, endangered his peers, and failed to respond and render aid when an inmate assaulted another deputy with food trays. Markillie challenged his termination, but an arbitrator upheld the decision, confirming the sheriff’s office had cause to fire him.
