Fairfax County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Theodore Sanford Jr. conspired with an inmate to smuggle contraband, including a cell phone, fentanyl, cocaine and Suboxone, into the county jail between 2022 and 2023 in exchange for bribes. After investigators discovered the contraband, Sanford resigned from the Sheriff’s Office and later pleaded guilty in 2024 to federal charges related to the scheme.
