Rodney Bryan Dickenson – Benewah County Sheriff’s Office

In May 2019, Sergeant Dickenson secretly recorded meetings with Sheriff Resser and Undersheriff Eells without authorization, violating department policies. Upon discovery, he initially denied the recordings but later admitted to them. The recordings were intended to document alleged misconduct by other deputies. Following an internal investigation, Dickenson was placed on administrative leave and subsequently terminated in August 2019 for policy violations, including unauthorized recording and dishonesty. He filed a wrongful termination lawsuit under Idaho’s Whistleblower Act, which was dismissed by the Idaho Supreme Court in June 2023.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
