Sanford Meyer – Mason County Sheriff’s Office

In November 2008, Deputy Jailer Sanford Meyer was involved in the mistreatment of detainee Darrin Irwin. Meyer placed Irwin in a choke hold, impairing his ability to breathe, and later sprayed him with pepper spray without warning. These actions led to a civil rights lawsuit, resulting in a settlement. Meyer resigned following the incident.
