Sergeant Carolyn Townsend – Columbia County Sheriff’s Office

In September 2019, Sergeant Townsend authorized the release of an inmate, Mr. Self, who had sustained a jaw injury from an assault by another inmate. Despite the inmate’s severe pain and lack of immediate medical care, Townsend released him without ensuring he had access to necessary medical treatment. This action led to a lawsuit alleging negligence and violation of the inmate’s Eighth Amendment rights. The court found sufficient grounds to proceed with claims related to Townsend’s decision to release the inmate without adequate medical care.

Important Community Guidelines

It is strictly against our rules to:

  • Make threats of any kind
  • Share private information such as personal emails, home addresses, or phone numbers

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
