Sergeant Darlene Froehlich – Newtown Police Department

In July 2015, former Sergeant Darlene Froehlich filed a federal lawsuit against the Newtown Police Department, alleging a pervasive pattern of sexual harassment, discrimination, and retaliation. She claimed that from 2010 onward, she was treated differently than her male counterparts, faced hostility from superior officers, and was subjected to approximately 14 internal affairs investigations. Froehlich also alleged that her image was removed from a group portrait on the town’s website and that her job performance evaluations declined after 2010. She contended that these actions led to her constructive termination in January 2014. The lawsuit sought remedies including back pay, compensatory damages, and the removal of disciplinary statements from her personnel file.
