Written by On February 16, 2022, Sheriff Randy Shores was present during the arrest of Robert Deer, who was pursued by multiple law enforcement agencies. Body camera footage showed that during the arrest, former Waldron Police Officer Omar Gonzalez used excessive force against Deer, including kicking him in the head and striking him multiple times. Shores was charged with two counts of being an accomplice to third-degree battery for allegedly witnessing the excessive force and failing to intervene. Shores pleaded not guilty to the charges and stated he did not witness the actions that led to the charges. The trial was postponed to February 21, 2023.
