In December 2020, Officers Marcello Errigo and James Weston filed a lawsuit alleging that Sheriff Richard Berdnik retaliated against them for endorsing his political rivals in the 2010 election. The officers claimed they were denied promotions, faced pay reductions, and were removed from specialized units as a result of their political affiliations. Berdnik and the county dismissed the allegations as false and frivolous.
