Sheriff Scott Jay – Beckham County Sheriff’s Office

In May 2013, Sheriff Scott Jay allegedly orchestrated the false arrest, strip search, and confinement of former police chief Jarrod Hinkle without a warrant, accusing him of conspiracy and theft related to a trailer. The charges were later dismissed due to lack of evidence. Hinkle filed a lawsuit claiming violations of his constitutional rights, including First Amendment retaliation and Fourth Amendment violations. The case highlighted concerns about abuse of power and retaliatory actions within the sheriff’s office.

Important Community Guidelines

It is strictly against our rules to:

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
