Officer Steven Figueroa was terminated in August 2019 following multiple arrests, including charges of third-degree assault, unlawful restraint, threatening, risk of injury to a child, and first-degree sexual assault. In October 2024, he pleaded guilty to fourth-degree sexual assault, third-degree assault, unlawful restraint, and threatening charges. Figueroa subsequently filed a federal discrimination lawsuit against the city, alleging his termination was due to his Hispanic heritage. In February 2025, the Bridgeport City Council voted to settle the lawsuit by paying Figueroa $60,000.
