Springfield police detective Steven Vigneault was implicated alongside Bigda in the 2016 interrogation of juvenile suspects, originally accused of kicking one teen in the face during the arrest. He was indicted in 2018 on a federal civil rights charge for excessive force, but in 2020 prosecutors dropped the charge after the alleged victim testified that another officer (Bigda) had delivered the kick. Vigneault had resigned from the department under pressure in 2016 and has since sought reinstatement and back pay after his indictment was dismissed.
