Terry Peck – Gary Police Department

In March 2019, Officer Terry Peck conducted a traffic stop on Rasaan Hamilton. During the arrest, Peck allegedly slammed Hamilton’s face into the side of a patrol car with enough force to knock out several of Hamilton’s teeth. This incident led to a federal indictment for deprivation of rights under color of law, carrying a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Peck was fired by the Gary Police Civil Service Commission following a disciplinary complaint related to this assault. Additionally, Hamilton filed a federal lawsuit against Peck and the city of Gary seeking over $2 million in damages. Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
