Officer Troy Lawrence Jr. joined the Baton Rouge Police Department in 2019. In January 2020, he and another officer stopped Clarence Green and his 16-year-old brother, conducting a strip search and allegedly searching their mother’s home without a warrant. This case settled for $35,000 in May 2021. In October 2020, Lawrence Jr. aggressively detained Shermaine Reed during a traffic accident response, leading to a lawsuit that settled for $55,000. In January 2023, Jeremy Lee alleged that Lawrence Jr. and other officers took him to the ‘Brave Cave’ facility, where they beat him and turned off their body cameras. Medical records showed Lee suffered a broken rib and facial injuries. Lawrence Jr. resigned from the department on August 29, 2023, following these allegations.
