Unidentified Deputies – Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office

In October 2022, during Operation Rolling Thunder, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on a charter bus carrying students from Shaw University, a historically Black college. The stop involved the use of a drug-sniffing dog, but no illegal substances were found. The incident led to allegations of racial profiling and prompted the university to file a complaint with the U.S. Justice Department. The Sheriff’s Office faced criticism for the operation’s tactics and its refusal to release public incident reports related to the operation.
