Unnamed Officers – Preston County Sheriff’s Department

In May 2024, two officers from the Preston County Sheriff’s Department were involved in a property dispute between neighbors. Initially, they correctly informed one neighbor that they couldn’t arrest the other over a car allegedly parked on his property. However, they later proceeded to arrest the individual without proper justification, violating Fourth Amendment rights. Body camera footage revealed the officers’ actions, leading to a lawsuit being filed against them.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
