In 2012, several white officers were allegedly recorded making racist remarks about Chief Boykins. These officers filed claims alleging they were recorded without their knowledge. The city settled with them for $500,000 and agreed there was no evidence of illegal activity or racist language used against Boykins. The incident highlighted tensions and allegations of racism within the department.
