Valley Mills police chief, officer arrested

On February 10, 2025, Valley Mills Police Chief Matthew Cantrell and Officer Solomon Omotoya were arrested on charges of Abuse of Official Capacity. The arrests followed an investigation initiated in January after a city council member noticed suspicious credit card charges related to the police department. Investigators discovered that both Cantrell and Omotoya used city-issued fuel cards to purchase gasoline for their personal vehicles while off duty. These unauthorized transactions occurred at multiple gas stations in Johnson County, where both officers reside. Surveillance footage confirmed the misuse of the fuel cards. On February 10, authorities obtained warrants for their arrest. Officer Omotoya was taken into custody while on duty in Valley Mills, and Chief Cantrell was arrested at his home in Johnson County. Both have been charged with Abuse of Official Capacity.
