In August 2024, former Todd County Sheriff W.D. ‘Billy’ Stokes was convicted of third-degree sodomy for engaging in deviant sexual intercourse with an inmate at the Todd County Detention Center in April 2022, where he was employed as a deputy jailer. The jury recommended a two-year prison sentence, and a sex offender evaluation was ordered. Stokes had previously served as the Todd County Sheriff from 2007 to 2010.
