William Bohnyak – Orange County Sheriff’s Department

In 2020, Sheriff William Bohnyak assigned an unqualified Level II deputy to the department’s special investigations unit, allowing the deputy to investigate sensitive cases involving sexual assaults against children without proper certification. Bohnyak admitted to failing to submit the necessary paperwork and took full responsibility. In January 2023, he settled a case with the Vermont Criminal Justice Council, receiving a written warning and being required to undergo additional training.
