In 2012, Chief Willie Hudson was accused of retaliating against Officer Polion for reporting alleged misconduct within the department. Polion claimed that after he reported concerns about ineptitude and possible unlawful behavior by Hudson and Assistant Chief Michael Hamilton, he faced retaliatory actions including assignment of faulty equipment, removal of his investigator’s badge, denial of new uniforms, and lack of support for continuing education. Polion’s employment was terminated in the summer of 2012. He filed a lawsuit alleging First Amendment retaliation, equal protection and due process violations, and the tort of outrage. The court granted summary judgment in favor of the defendants on all counts.
